Sing the Messiah with in a massed choir then travel through Europe to follow in the footsteps of great classical composers.

This is a must do programme for people who have sung the Messiah!

Programme

Day 1 Thur. April 28th, Salzburg, Arrival and 1st rehearsal

Transfer from Salzburg Airport or main station to your booked accommodation.

5:00pm Messiah Rehearsal Choir and Piano. Conducted by Jan S. Bechtold & Erich Klug

7:30pm Singers Club - Singers meet for a relaxed evening together.

Overnight at your booked accommodation.

Day 2 Fri,  Salzburg, Sightseeing / rehearsal #2 / Musical Walk (B)

Buffet breakfast at your booked Hotel.

10:00am meet with your licensed city guide for a 2 h walking sightseeing tour. You will see Mozart´s Birthplace, St. Peter´s Abbey & Cemetery and the; finishing your tour at the bottom of the huge 11th century Fortress Hohensalzburg, which overlooks the city. Balance of the day at your leisure: maybe you would like to take the funicular up to the fortress (on your own expenses) to have on a clear day a beautiful view all over the city or sit in one of the may coffee shops and enjoy a decadent piece of cake and coffee, a tradition that many Austrian enjoy in the afternoon.

3:00pm Messiah Rehearsal

Choir, Piano & Orchestra. Conducted by Jan S. Bechtold and Erich Klug

7:00pm Musical Walk through the Old Town of Salzburg
The participating choirs present themselves here one after the other. 10 minutes per choir.
Compulsory Final Piece: G.F. Handel: “Hallelujah” from “Messiah”

Singers Club - Singers meet for a relaxed evening together.
Overnight at your booked accommodation.

Day 3 Sat.  Salzburg/rehearsal #3/concert (B, D)

Buffet breakfast at your booked Hotel.

10:00am Messiah General Rehearsal.
Choir, Soloists and Orchestra. Conducted by Jan S. Bechtold & Erich Klug approx. 04:30pm transfer to the Salzburg lake district to Mattsee

Welcome, round trip and short rehearsal

7:00pm 5th Messiah Concert at the Stiftskirche Mattsee with singers from around the world, soloists and the "Chamber Orchestra of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg". Conductors: Jan S. Bechtold & Erich Klug

10:15pm Messiah – Choir-Festival – Party – light dinner is included.

Get – Together for all Participants.

Overnight at your booked accommodation.

Day 4 Sun.  St. Florian Abbey/Vienna (B)

After breakfast, check out of your Salzburg accommodation and departure by bus to St. Florian.

Enjoy a guided tour of St. Florian Abbey (adm. and guided tour included) and Bruckner´s grave.

Short informal singing in the Abbey.

Continue to Vienna and check into your accommodation. Overnight at your accommodation in Vienna.

Day 5 Mon.  Vienna sightseeing(B)

Breakfast at hotel. Meet with licensed English speaking guide for a half-day city tour of Vienna showing the Highlights of the city driving around the Ring Boulevard, passing the Hofburg Palace, House of Parliament, City Hall, Burgtheater, Belvedere Palace and many more famous sights (exterior only). See the Zumbusch Beethoven monument on the Ring, the Schwarzspanierhaus and the Waehring Cemetery, as well as statues and places dedicated to Beethoven, Brahms, Strauss II, Bruckner and Schubert among others. Tour is ending in the inner-city.

Time at your leisure for individual activities or shopping.

Overnight at your accommodation in Vienna.

Day 6 Tue.  Vienna/sightseeing (B,D)

Breakfast at hotel.

Later this morning, your bus will take you to visit Schoenbrunn Palace.

Enjoy an audio guided tour of the Schoenbrunn Palace, former summer residence of the Habsburgs (admission included).

Afterwards browse the gardens and walk up to the Gloriette building from where you will have a beautiful view over Vienna on your own.
Balance of day free for individual sightseeing.

This evening, enjoy a dinner at a typical Viennese “Heurigen” Restaurant with Austrian Music Entertainment.

Day 7 Wed.  Lake Neusiedl / Budapest (B)

After breakfast check out of your Vienna accommodation.

Depart by bus to Budapest drive through the Burgenland, certainly one of Austria’s most tempting destinations. As the republic’s easternmost province it is the connecting link between the Austrian Alps and the lowland plains of Hungary and offers a wide variety of different landscapes: from mountains to wooded hills to flatlands with the famous steppe lake known as Lake Neusiedl, situated in the border region to Hungary.

You will drive along parts of the largest steppe lake of Europe, a unique ecosystem with up to 5 km reeds belt and a protected wildlife sanctuary.

You will pass through beautiful little villages such as Rust, famous for its storks and Moerbisch, in the vicinity of the Hungarian border with white-washed houses and an abundance of flowers. It is the location of the famous 'Seefestspiele Moerbisch' where operettas by Lehar and Johann Strauss, jr. are annually performed.

Continue to Budapest and check into your accommodation.

Day 8 Thu.  Budapest /sightseeing (B)

Breakfast at hotel.

Meet with licensed English speaking guide for a 3 h city sightseeing tour of Budapest (no admissions included). Historic Budapest actually two cities: Buda, on the western bank of the Danube and Pest, which extends from the eastern bank, both united in 1872 Budapest is a thriving city with great history.

View the Castle with the reconstructed Royal Palace and Matthias Church, antique shops and stores, taverns and restaurants and Fisherman´s Bastion towering on top of the city. Be on the “ruts” of Zoltán Kodály, Béla Bartók and Franz Lehár.

Balance of day free for individual sightseeing and last shopping.

Farewell dinner a typical Hungarian Restaurant with Gypsy Music.

Day 9 Fri.  Budapest departure

(B) Breakfast at hotel. Check out. Transfer to Budapest International Airport.
